Introducing Art Workshops with Private Tuition

If you want to be imaginative in your own art or want to learn something of how I paint, these oil painting tutorials could be right for you. I look forward to sharing ideas with you.

Loosely painted landscape

Oil Painting workshops on some Tuesdays & Fridays each month and Saturdays in June are for one or two students. The day will suit beginners or an artist looking for a relaxing day to enjoy experimenting with oils and the addition of some mediums and cold wax on paper, panel and canvas. All art materials will be provided with refreshments available during the day. Just bring your lunch.

The Workshop will start at 10.30am and close at 3.30pm. I shall give you personal one-to-one sharing of ideas and you can experiment with the materials. At the end of the day you will go home with your finished paintings. The fee for your day is £95 per person.

Oil painting with soft, subtle browns and greys

What to expect...

A day to experiment and experience different processes using oil paint. You will follow your own imagination and make some art that is truly yours.

In the painting workshop you will have a selection of different papers, some wood panels and two 12 inch canvases to make your own designs and compositions. There will be Artist quality oil colours, oil painting mediums and cold wax for you to practice mark-making. Painting tools, knives, squeegees, brushes and rollers for working will be available and I shall do some demonstrations on paper for you to see how I handle the paint.

The focus will be on creating expressive sketches a step away from reality but the choice of your finished piece will be yours. I do not personally work from photos or copy subjects preferring to use my imagination and work intuitively . This workshop is designed to encourage you to do this...to loosen up your process and find your own unique way of making your art. If you are interested in exploring this for yourself, I am happy to share some ideas with you.

Refreshments are provided, just bring your packed lunch.

Demonstration sketches...

These are some oil sketches on gessoed 300gsm paper. I shall do some like this during my teaching workshop. Different sizes and format make it interesting.

These are quick sketches using a limited palette with three transparent colours. It gives a suggestion of the natural landscape without being too literal.

Mark-making and drawing in paint

I enjoy making abstract work with marks and scribbles. You can let your imagination run free and design your own. Let your confidence grow as you experiment with my art materials.
